Tshwane derby promises to be a gripping blockbuster

SuperSport United will be returning to the revamped Lucas Moripe Stadium for the first time this season when they host Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership encounter on Wednesday night.

Kick-off is at 7.30pm.

The Tshwane derby is promising to be a gripping blockbuster as the two outfits are separated by one point.

Sundowns are number two with 24 points while SuperSport are right behind them sitting on 23 points.

A victory for either side will see them climb to the top of the league standings after Cape Town City claimed the top spot after beating Golden Arrows 1-0 on Sunday.

Matsatsantsa are winless in their last three matches in all competitions and will be desperate to get back to winning ways at the expense of Masandawana.

Addressing the media in Randburg on Monday, SuperSport defender Onismor Bhasera said the only way to topple the agonizingly dominant Sundowns side that is yet to taste defeat in the league is by bringing their A-game.

Top-of-the-table clash

“We have to match them. If we can do that, trust me, the results will be different. We need to go out there and match them,” said Bhasera.

“We must bring our A-game and be spot-on. We must win this match to make sure that we sit on top of the log table.”

Indeed, Bhasera and his defensive unit will have to be on top of their game as they will be confronted with a deadly attack coming from Peter Shalulile, Lucas Ribeiro, and the in-form Gaston Sirino.

The trio was on the scoresheet during their comfortable 3-0 victory over FC Nouadhibou in the CAF Champions League Group A clash at the weekend.

It goes without saying that the Brazilians will be beaming with confidence going into the match.

They have proven from time to time that they are the team to beat, as they continue to brutalise every opponent they come up against.
