Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson is confident that his team’s confidence following an outstanding performance against SuperSport United will help them beat the Brazilians.
The two sides meet in a highly anticipated DStv Premiership fixture at the FNB Stadium on Thursday evening.
Speaking on the club’s website, Johnson said: “The players are in a very good space after getting a good result, and more importantly, putting in a good performance against SuperSport.
“We face another Tshwane team in our home stadium and in front of our amazing supporters, and we are preparing to take Sundowns ‘to the wire’.
“As the home team, it is incumbent on us to give a good account of ourselves and go all out to get the three points.”
What to expect from Sundowns
“Sundowns are a well-organised team with some good players and a technical staff that pushes them to keep up a high standard,” said Johnson.
“Having seen them play TS Galaxy on Monday, it is difficult to predict what line-up Rulani [Mokoena, Sundowns coach] will select to play us.
“He has a big, talented group of players at his disposal, although we expect some of the players who missed out against TS Galaxy to come back into the side.”
Having broken his goal-scoring duck for the season by netting a sublime winner against SuperSport United on Saturday, the Chiefs’ dribbling wizard, Mduduzi Shabalala’s appetite for goals, has only increased as Amakhosi look to close out the season on a high.
Hunger to score goals
The 20-year-old Shabalala said: “It’s a great feeling because I have been desperately wanting to score goals to help the team. It has really boosted my confidence and increased my hunger to score more goals.
“It’s always a tough match. Everybody knows that they are log leaders at the moment, but it’s really all about us.
“We are going to have to execute our game plan, and when we get opportunities, we have to be clinical.
“We want to stop them from winning the league in ‘our house’.”
The match kicks off at 7.30pm.
