The Ballito Big week is set to be the house music showcase to be in Durban, with a fired up line-up to set the scene alight.
The event will take place at the Sugar Rush Park, one of KZN’s entertainment meccas, set in the town of glitz and glamour, on Friday. It is hosted by Mzansi’s award-winning promoter Junior Lavie.
All set for the big day
Sugar Rush is set amongst the farmlands of inland Ballito, a place to find adventure, fun or tranquility in an outdoor setting with activities for the whole family.
Lavie has been hosting events for over a decade, and was recently part of the organising team for the Gagasi FM Beachfest gig.
Speaking to Sunday World, Lavie said everything was well planned. However, the great challenge has to be the unpredictable coastal weather.
“Bad weather is always the main challenge in hosting events, especially outdoor. And also lack of enough sponsorships. Everything is possible with enough money,” he said.
Year of growth
He also touched on his experience in 2023, saying though it has been a bumpy ride, it has been a year full of growth.
“It has been a major learning curve for me, which led me in halting some of my events such as F Ink Party. However, they’re still around but it focuses more on marketing rather than hosting its own event.
“POT (Part On Tuesday) was a matter of not having enough sponsorship and also not wanting to move away from my partners and host it in other venues due to lack of funds. Loyalty comes first in my life,” he said.
Star-studded line-up
Some of the country’s top artists set to dazzle their music fans during the Ballito Big week include DJ Shimza, Culoe De song, Blckie, Thandi Draai and Sun-El Musician.
“Now [we] focus more on hosting outdoor events rather than clubs, and also travel the world to build solid bridges with international promoters. The line-up consists of artists with the guarantee to keep the crowd on their feet dancing,” said Lavie.
