Chiefs have one foot in the CAF Champions League final

Johannesburg – A first half Samir Nurkovic goal was enough to give Kaizer Chiefs a glimmer of hope of reaching the final of the 2020/21 CAF Champions League after beating Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco 1-0 in the first leg, semi-final at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Saturday night.

Although the home side failed to assert and dominate the proceeding throughout, the North African giants also did not seem like the team that beat Chiefs 4-0 in the group stages.

Amakhosi showed flashes of brilliance going forward and in their defence but in the second stanza failed to get clear cut chances to increase their tally.

However it was the agility and bravery of keeper Bruce Bvuma that kept the visitors in the game, saving the Soweto giants the blushes on a number of times as Wydad searched for an equaliser to Nurkovic’s 34th minute winner, scored from a Njabulo Blom pass.

With Lebohang Manyama unavailable, assistant coach Arthur Zwane started with Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro to lead the attack and threw in defender and full back Yagan Sasman to start.

In the other first leg, semi-final, a 67th minute Mohammad Sharif goal gave Al Ahly a second leg advantage when they beat Esperance in Tunis, Tunisia last night.
