Ramaphosa to address the nation tonight as confirmed cases climb to 274

President Cyril Ramaphosa will tonight address the nation on what other measures his administration will take to combat the spread of the Covid-19, with the number of confirmed cases now standing at more than 270.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa has increased to 274 with no reported deaths.

The department of health confirmed that the number of new cases was 34 on Sunday evening.


Gauteng has the most confirmed cases with 132 infected, Western Cape has 88 cases, Kwazulu Natal has 36, the Free State 9, Limpopo 1, Mpumalanga 6 and the Eastern Cape 2.

The  President yesterday chaired a meeting of the National Command Council which received an update on the novel coronavirus outbreak; progress and challenges related to implementation of the recently promulgated regulations on the state of disaster and other measures to protect the country, as well as economic impact.

Ramaphosa is expected to give further directives on what steps government will take in its fight to contain the spread of the virus which has claimed more than 11 000 lives worldwide.
