Safa VP Gladwyn White lashes out against faceless critics of Safa

Johannesburg – Safa vice-president Gladwyn White has issued a stern warning to faceless former Safa officials who he says want to collapse the national association.

White was referring to expelled or banished Safa employees who are claimed to be conniving against the national association.

He also lashed out at the regions that have come out and endorsed certain members to run for the body’s presidential elections.

“Those administrators are out of Safa and football and they are now painting an ugly picture to depict Safa. I am proud to say the NEC [national executive committee] has appointed a young and dynamic CEO in advocate Tebogo Motlanthe to advance football development,” said White.

“We are doing well apart from his predecessors who are singing things and choruses that we cannot understand. I don’t understand why you, our media colleagues, are giving mileage and airtime to these people who do not belong or are subscribing to any structure of SA football.”

Motlanthe’s predecessors, Dennis Mumble and Gay Mokoena, were scathing about corruption and the leadership of the national association when they were ousted from their positions as CEO.

The region that officially came out and endorsed a member was the Uthukela from KZN via their outspoken president Themba Phiri last week.

“South Africa and the globe are experiencing a catastrophic pandemic and we are aware that there are some faceless characters who are lacking identity of belonging and who are roaming around and conniving elsewhere in order to destabilise Safa.

“Those people are acting in their own right as a pandemic to this organisation and they are compromising the commercial confidence of this particular organisation. Safa as an entity cannot survive without commercial assistance and we need to condemn such conduct of people who are no longer in football,” White said.

“At Safa, we work according to processes that are enshrined in the statutes. They are faceless and an investigation will confirm the identities of these people.

“If they are outside of football, the Fifa ethics committee is empowered to take a stance. For people to comment in corners and a specific region to nominate their presidential candidate is tantamount to destabilising the brand of Safa. The local football association must first have their elections and, from there, it goes to regions before we can proclaim on presidential candidates.
