Vavi tests positive for Covid-19

Prominent trade union federation boss, Zwelinzima Vavi, has joined a growing list of pre-eminent political leaders who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The general secretary of the SA Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) announced today that he had had received test results from a lab that confirmed that he had contracted the Coronavirus.

“Gosh comrades on the day I feel much better the lab called to say I tested positive for coronavirus! It’s mild but need self isolation at home! I will run it out, steam it out and just relax and observe all the rules!” said Vavi.

The former Cosatu general secretary did not specify the circumstances under which he was infected by the virus.

“Obviously I’m overwhelmed by requests for interviews. It’s impossible to do all,” he said.

ACDP leader Kenneth Meshoe and the party’s MP Steve Swart had also recently tested positive for the virus. They were part of the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast held in Bloemfontein by the Divine Restoration Ministries on March 10.

The Ekurhuleni municipality was forced to close the Duduza Clinic on the East Rand, after a nurse who attended the gathering – where several people were infected by the virus – tested positive.

In a Facebook post, Vavi said all his family members would test.
“Family, friends & comrades in obvious panic but I am fine and I will win again!
