[WATCH]: Rhoo leads the way on Coronavirus

Former Bafana Bafana player Lucas “Rhoo” Radebe has thrown his weight behind government efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In a home video, sitting with his family in the living room, Rhoo expressed the seriousness of the spread of the virus among South Africans, urging especially people in the townships across the country to take it seriously.

“Let us listen, especially us guys from the townships. We don’t want this to spread to many people, to a point where we won’t be able to manage it,” said Radebe.

Radebe played for Kaizer Chiefs as centre back before moving to Leeds United in the English Premier League in 1994. After SA was readmitted to international sport in 1992, he was appointed the second Bafana Bafana captain after Neil Tovey, who was his teammate at Chiefs.

Rhoo, as he was popularly known, captained and played for Leeds until 2005.

He started his football career as goalkeeper at Chiefs in 1989 but later switched positions to play in central defence, winning a number of trophies with Amakhosi. Radebe earned 70 national team caps, captaining Bafana at the World Cup of 1998 in France and 2002 in Korea/Japan.

He added his gratitude to all the essential service employees who were doing their best to fight against the pandemic.
