Rapper Cassper Nyovest, real name Refiloe Phoolo, is beaming with confidence ahead of his Celeb City fight against hip-hop artist Priddy Ugly.
Nyovest’s last fight was against musician Naakmusiq, real name Anga Makhabule, in April this year.
In an interview with Sunday World this week, Nyovest said he believes he did well in the last fight although he lost against Naakmusiq. He said the fight taught him and his team a few lessons.
“My team and I were able to go [and] fix them [mistakes]. A lot of things that went wrong in that ring were because of me, I was just too aggressive and wanted to end the fight quickly,” he said.
For the upcoming fight, he said he does not have sparring sessions because he wants to avoid getting injured before the fight. “For this particular fight, we worked on certain things such as fitness, a plan, and ‘plan B’.
In the previous fight, I found myself fighting with an injury, so I am not willing to take that chance. I’ve been in camp for two months, which has been shorter than my last camp, but I put in so much work.”
He said he believes Priddy Ugly has put more effort than his last opponent.
“With Priddy, you can see that he definitely put in the work and effort, he is just as keen to fight and put on a show. The only difference right now between him and I is the actual boxing experience, he doesn’t have it,” said Nyovest.
During a media conference at Moloko in Menlyn, Pretoria on Thursday, TLB boxing promoter Joyce Kungwane said: “We are excited once again to witness this auspicious event live at Sun Arena Pretoria, we thank Celeb City for this event and can’t wait to see who wins the title this second time around.”
The second edition of Celeb City will also feature professional boxing matches between Akani Sambo and Layten Gloss. At stake is the Gauteng bantamweight title.
Eastern Cape-born Asemahle Wellem and Gauteng-born Cowin Ray will lock horns for the SA super middleweight title, while Simphiwe Koncko and Philippine-born Garen Diagan will clash for the international mini-flyweight title.
The last title fight will pit Bukiwe Nonina against Zimbabwean Cecilia Pitsani in the junior lightweight division.
Celeb City will take place at the Sun Bet Arena from September 30 to October 2 and promises to be an exhilarating weekend experience filled with music.
