DJ Black Coffee says he finally found his true sound again – the one that made him a global icon.
And if you were wondering what the real meaning of a song SBCNCSLY, released on Friday, is – it’s not him “speaking in tongues” or “subcutaneously”. It simply means “subconsciously”.
The song went straight to number one of the Metro FM charts yesterday.
The lyrics go: “Subconsciously, she wonders, what it’s like to be in love. She wants to be hi everything. But a pride relents too much.”
According to the DJ, who recently divorced from Enhle Mbali, there is no subliminal meaning to it.
“We didn’t mean to spell it like that. When I was working on it, I would write the name in short when I was doing mixes in studio. Everyone grew used to it. There is really no message. If there is any, it’s more on the sound for me.
“Getting back to a place I once was in musically. How it’s arranged and the sound and so forth. Getting back to the basics. It’s a pure Black Coffee song. That’s why I am so glad people are connecting to it,” he said.
Twitter fans likened it to the Superman song he did with Busi. It’s a delicate dance track drenched in warm piano chords, rolling drumlines, and feels weightless. He said it took two years to complete and releasing it during lockdown wasn’t planned.
