Shwashwi: Indoni shows its mettle at fashion do

Y’all know Shwa loves knowing about the new fashion lines and the African Fashion International (AFI) was the perfect place to be at the weekend.

It was happening at the illustrious The Diamond Walk in Sandton City and it brought together various fashion designers from across the African continent.

Give it to Indoni Fashion House for respecting the African imprints on the runway. They sure understood the assignment as though they were the creatives and organisers of the event.

If it shouts African! then they are the go-to fashion house as they proved their firm roots in the traditional cloths of Africa. No need to wait for Heritage Day when you have Indoni Fashion House by your side.

No disrespect to other fashion houses though. Suitability tried to keep it African, not by print but by drawing inspiration from how traditional meets modern.

His models reminded me of the Xhosa men returning from initiation with their panama hats and sticks. Some would get it. This was considered the gentlemen’s look, oops! Suitability made it look yet so fashionable again.

Senegal-based Sisters Of Africa brought out the bright colours of their flag to celebrate the summer days. But be careful of the bees, guys!

By the way, there’s a dress I saw, and I think it would suit me when going to church in this fully covering number. Plus, it has a matching doek. Ready for the N1?

Kreyann fashion brand from Cameroon catered for the expectant women, those wanting to cover up.

Honestly, I believe more could have been done. The dresses looked like they were from mom’s old wardrobe. The traditional kind of vintage without any effective modern touch. A little more colour and leg would not have done any harm.

Then there was Lerato Merafhe’s line, coming all the way from Botswana. Guys, Shwa just wishes to understand where the inspiration came from because most of the garments looked like something I wear when doing house chores.

Looks like she was sort of drawing inspiration from Kanye West. Celebrate colour. Love colour. Appreciate colour because it just has a way to boost confidence.

Eric Raisina from Madagascar gave us just that. Fascinating. It was worth it. Moi even felt like visiting Madagascar at that very moment to enjoy the surrounding beach in the bright coloured garments.

Classy, sassy, and screaming summertime. Gotta rush for some from the collection.
