Actress and media personality Omuhle Gela has pulled out of season 11 of Tropika: Island of Treasure.
In a statement on Monday, Gela announced that she has decided to pull out of the competition and has asked production to recast her for the upcoming reality show.
She said she is currently involved in an upcoming television series that will conflict with the shooting of Tropika: Island of Treasure, which will take place in Zanzibar, a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of east Africa.
Zanele Potelwa, a radio and television personality, will be the show’s host. She stated that it would be amazing to host something like it.
“A couple of years ago, that’s when I started thinking about when I would join the entertainment industry,” said Potelwa.
“And now this is just one of those things that came even sooner than I had hoped.”
Longer acting contract
The celebrity cast of the show includes former Miss South Africa Ndavi Nokeri, actor Hungani Ndlovu, dancer Chad Jones, and singer Bobby van Jaarsveld, who are vying for the R1-million prize.
Gela explained: “As an actress returning to the screen following a year-long break off screen, my team and I have given careful thought to my next professional steps.
“It is with sincere and heartfelt gratitude that I express my appreciation for the opportunity to be part of Tropika: Island of Treasure, and I was eagerly anticipating the show.
“However, we have concluded that prioritising a longer acting contract in my professional field is in my best interest.”
Gela thanked her fans for their unwavering support and encouragement since she shared the news of her being part of the show.
