Youth must be more aggressive in taking up space – Mandla N

Filmmaker, music composer, and creative director Mandla Ngcongcwane, popularly known as Mandla N, believes the youth need to be more aggressive in taking up space.

Mandla N, who is the founder of Black Brain Pictures, recently revealed that he bought the former Urban Brew studios in Randburg.

The building will be useful for acting scenes that are in some of his drama series.

Speaking to Sunday World this week, Mandla N said that, having been in the industry for over 25 years, his vision has always been long-term success.

“I was driven primarily by the need to own my own properties. This is not a personal vision only but a major move for the black creative,” said Mandla N.

Job creation

He stated that he bought the building because he wants Black Brain Pictures to own its set. He also added that he does what he does out of passion but he is also a multi-hyphenate.

“I am a creative director; I am into music, property development, and even hospitality. This studio will create employment and feed many, many homes.

“I was never focused on being relevant; I was focusing more on the importance of realising my dreams, and I knew that one day I would employ hundreds of creatives, and today I am living my dream.”

Mandla N has always been someone who advocates for giving chances to new faces in the industry.

“I made no apologies for the moves I had to make and today I am able to pass on that knowledge to my kids, my staff and my partners.

“I will never not want to give the youth new opportunities. I had to create my own opportunities so I could pave the way for those coming after me.”
