Police in Gauteng have seized 100 firearms and ammunition from a Soweto security company after a compliance inspection revealed serious violations of the Firearms Control Act, 60 of 2000.
The seizure was carried out under Operation Buyisa, a national intervention launched in 2025 to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and enforce compliance among licensed owners.
According to a preliminary report, the company’s Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority accreditation had recently been suspended. Despite this, the responsible person failed to dispose of the firearms as required by law.
Further inspection revealed that the company’s firearm storage facility did not meet the strict requirements outlined in the Firearms Control Act.
The confiscated firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of any crimes.
Police say the operation reflects their commitment to tackling gun-related crime and ensuring that firearms are properly regulated.
