The City of Tshwane has referred further allegations of sexual misconduct and illegal use of its resources by the suspended MMC of human settlements Abel Tau to the speaker of council, it said on Monday.
This after Sunday World reported that Tau, ActionSA Gauteng provincial secretary, is facing more allegations of sexual misconduct.
“I have taken note of recent media reports detailing further allegations against the MMC for human settlements, councillor Abel Tau,” said City of Tshwane mayor Randall Williams.
“The nature of these allegations is serious and will require further investigation. According to media reports, one of the allegations pertains to a personal relationship with a city employee, which may have resulted in an alleged abuse of power.”
Williams added that Tau would also be investigated for the alleged use of the city’s vehicle, after he instructed the driver to bring the vehicle to his house on Friday.
“Another incident relates to the alleged inappropriate use of the city’s resources for while councillor Tau was on leave. In my capacity as the executive mayor, I will be writing to the speaker of council, councillor Murunwa Makwarela, to have both these allegations investigated, as they could be in breach of the code of conduct for councillors and will need to be scrutinised further.
“As a multiparty coalition government, we have agreed to drive good governance and adhere to the principles of transparency. This requires using the correct legislative channels to address any allegations made against the political executive of the city.”
