Foreigners find new home in jail for stealing copper cables

Three illegal immigrants have been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the possession of R100 000 worth of copper cables.

Personal Mogovera, Tymore Sithole and Solomon Sithole appeared at the Kroonstad magistrate’s court on Wednesday to answer to charges of theft and illegal immigration.

The trio was nabbed during a police patrol on the N1 in Kroonstad, Free State in December 2021. Their bakkie was searched and they failed to prove ownership of the copper cables.

Free State Hawks’ provincial head, Mokgadi Bokaba, said: “It’s a good conviction. We really congratulate the officer who dealt with the matter and the understanding of the court into the harm caused by criminals in these types of crimes.”
