Limpopo ANC suspends membership of two councilors who violated lockdowns rules

The ANC Provincial working committee in Limpopo has suspended the membership of two of its leaders who violated lockdown regulations.

The decision was taken during a virtual meeting which was held on Thursday after the party received reports from the two ANC leaders’ respective regional executive committees.

The two Councillors, Jack Legodi of Polokwane Municipality and Tebogo Mamorobela, a PR councillor at Makhado Municipality, were arrested following information that they disregarded the protective measures announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mamorobela, who is also a Brand SA board member, was recorded on video, partying up a storm at her house with her friends during the lockdown.

Legodi, ward 36 Councillor in Polokwane, was also caught drinking liquor and pumping loud music with his friends in their cars in Moletje. The Councillor is believed to have also resisted arrest, allegedly stating that he had done nothing wrong, despite lockdown regulations that barred selling and consumption of liquor during lockdown.

In the statement issued this afternoon, ANC Provincial Secretary Soviet Lekganyane, on behalf of the PWC, said the ANC has resolved to concur with the regional executive committees in instituting disciplinary proceedings against the two ANC leaders.

He further said the decision-making structure has also agreed to temporarily suspend the membership of the two leaders

“The PWC expressed that the suspension of the two comrades does not in any way pronounce on their guilt or innocence, but its an endeavour to protect the image and integrity of the organization. The PWC further expressed its desire to have these matters processed and finalised diligently and speedily,” said Lekganyane.

He said the ANC supported the measures announced by the government led by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s to combat the spread of coronavirus.
