Mabilu donates PPE to provincial government

The David Mabilu Foundation has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) worth R1.5 million to the Limpopo provincial government to help with the fight against Covid-19.

The donation, announced by Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba on Friday, comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call to individuals and companies to make a contribution in the fight against the virus.

“We want to thank Mr Mabilu for donating this equipment. You will remember that in line with what the president has said, we are now going to start screening and testing people in order to determine how far the infection has spread,” she said.

Ramathuba said the PPE included 50 000 surgical masks, 1000 litres of sanitisers and 150 disposal overalls. “ We are now going to fight this virus without fear of contracting it because we have the material to protect ourselves . Remember our warehouse , which is in Seshego, was depleted after we handed  all the PPE to our hospitals and clinics staff. So, Mr Mabilu helped us a great deal, it shows that he has not  forgotten where he comes from,” she said.

Mabilu, who is also the CEO of Vharanani Group and Fundudzi Media, the owner of Sunday World, said he wanted to contribute to the safety of those keeping the country safe and healthy. “As many people are forced to be home because of Covid-19, there are brave men and women, our heroes, who go out each day to help those who contracted this virus. They deserve all the help and protection they can get,” he said.
