Poor school sues Intaba Yase Dubai for refund after no-show at matric farewell

KwaZulu-Natal hit song maker Intaba Yase Dubai is being hauled to court by a school in an impoverished rural area after he allegedly left pupils high and dry by failing to honour a gig despite pocketing a deposit.

Intaba Yase Dubai, real name Lindokuhle Msomi, was set to perform at a matric farewell function at the Mangwazana High School in the jurisdiction of Ntsinde tribal council, which is part of uMkhuze under the uMkhanyakude district on August 22.

The school’s management has now approached the Ubombo magistrate’s court in a bid to recoup the money paid to the truant Inyama Eningi hitmaker.

“I, the principal telephonically invited Intaba Yase Dubai telephonically to perform at a matric farewell function. We agreed with him that the total costs would be R18 000 and that an amount of R9 000 had to be deposited.

“An amount of R9 000 was indeed deposited,” reads an affidavit filed at the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court by school principal  Absolom Nsele.

The principal also states in court papers that the  court was the last resort after the school tried in vain to get the money back from the musician.

“Two days before the event, I called to remind him and he confirmed arrival. On August 21, I again called to remind him, shockingly he did not pick up after several attempts. On the day of the function he was nowhere to be seen,” reads the affidavit.

The school further made attempts to reach out to Intaba Yase Dubai hoping he would reimburse the funds but the attempts proved futile, prompting the principal to approach the court for relief.

Msomi did not respond to repeated requests for comment from Sunday World.

The musician, whose  career blossomed under Ambitiouz Records, releasing various hits , caused shock waves when he revealed that the record label was short-changing him.

He alleged that he was earning a meagre R3 700 a month from the company. He subsequently left the record label to do it on his own.

“I wonder how royalties are paid to some and not to others. My papers at Samro are intact as everywhere is updated.

“Since day one, I have never received even 50c. I’m not going to talk about the streamed music because not even one artist got that money,” Intaba Yase Dubai vented on social media.
