Rand Water claims to have full pumping capacity in all systems

Rand Water announced to its consumers on Saturday that full pumping capacity has been restored in all of its systems and has gradually filled the depleted reservoirs.

This comes after Rand Water announced the water supply interruption to its customers after severe thunderstorms damaged powerlines on Tuesday.

Rand Water has asked consumers to use water sparingly due to an increase in water demand caused by the high temperatures.

During the week, Rand Water held emergency meetings with the different affected municipalities to discuss the impact of the power supply and to come up with solutions.

Since the meetings took place, the four booster stations have improved. The meetings were attended by technical and communications teams from the City of Ekhuruleni and the City of Johannesburg.

The latest incident is said to have been caused by the reduction of pumping at the Palmiet and Eikenhof Pumping Stations.

In the City of Johannesburg, the South Hills Tower, Alexander Park Reservoir, Midrand System, and the Sandton System were all affected. Johannesburg Water said they would continue to monitor the developments and provide residents with updates.

In the City of Ekhuruleni, the Primrose, Russel Road Reservoirs, Windsor, and Churchill pump stations were affected. This resulted in affecting water supply in the Wadeville Industrial area, Germiston Central Business District, and the Bertha Gxowa Memorial Hospital.

“Rand Water and the City of Ekurhuleni will continue to prioritise the full restoration of water supply to Kwa-Thema and Tsakane townships, which were affected by the failures in the Mapleton supply system over the past weeks. The City of Ekurhuleni will also continue to monitor the developments and provide updates to residents,” reads the statement.
