Broos names final 23-man squad, Kodisang left out again

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named his 23-man squad who will face Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers on June 17 and on-form Kobamelo Kodisang has once again missed out.

The Belgian tactician made the announcement at the SABC studios in Auckland Park on Thursday afternoon.

Despite his stellar performance in the Portuguese second division and helping Moreirense gain promotion to the Liga Portugal, it was not enough to make it into Broos’ squad who will face the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists.

The 23-year-old speedy winger scored 11 goals and provided five assists, earning himself a permanent move with Moreirense after an impressive season long-loan spell from SC Braga.

The surprise addition was TS Galaxy midfielder Bathusi Aubaas, who had an impressive DStv Premiership campaign.

Broos did not make many changes from his previous squad, with talisman Lyle Foster being omitted from the squad due to his pre-season commitments with newly promoted English Premier League side Burnley.

South Africa and the Atlas Lions have both secured their qualification to the Afcon, which will be held in Ivory Coast next year.

Bafana Bafana 23-man final squad:

Goalkeepers: Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns), Veli Mothwa (AmaZulu), Ricardo Goss (SuperSport United)

Defenders: Nyiko Mobbie (Sekhukhune United), Thapelo Morena, Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala (all Sundowns), Innocent Maela, Nkosinathi Sibisi (both Orlando Pirates), Siyanda Xulu (Turan Tovus, Azerbaijan)

Midfielders: Luke Le Roux (Varbergs BoIS, Sweden), Njabulo Blom (St Louis City, USA), Sphephelo Sithole (Belenenses, Portugal), Teboho Mokoena (Sundowns), Bathusi Aubaas (TS Galaxy)
