‘Years of booking top artists helped my musical journey’ – DJ Gazza

Multi-talented events promoter DJ Gazza is lifting the lid on his mysterious life. He is taking centre stage with the release of his brand new single.

After hosting various high profile events for the last 21-years, DJ Gazza says music has always been part of his journey.

Real name Xolile Magagula, he hails from Daveyton, east rand, he has dropped his smashing single Inkanyezi, featuring Ciza and Chley. Music fans have been waiting for the release date of the single in anticipation as it has been hyped up on social media.

Spent 21 years as events organiser

Gazza, who is also an events organiser for his concepts of Wonderland and Roland Garros at Wanderers stadium, says  Inkanyezi isn’t his first single.

“The song is not my first, it’s just that music generally has always been part of my journey. It is a song of love and hope. On another hand I’ve been hosting events for 21 years now. I did my first event at my parents’ house when I was in matric. Due to demand from people I had to start hosting events at bigger venues, and the rest is history,” he said.

Gazza explained to Sunday World in his opinion what constitutes a good event.
“Know your crowd and deliver to their expectations. I sell an experience more than a line-up because I have learnt my consumers. You also need to master how to curate your event and line-up and ensure you’re sound in top notch.”

All-star DJ

Gazza is an all star DJ. He can play from old school house, kwaito, sing-alongs, deep house and amapiano, depending the atmosphere in the venue he’s booked in.
“My memorable event I’ve hosted was the one I did last year called Roland Garros at Wanderers stadium Cricket stadium. It’s a very premium event. The event was fun yet challenging to plan. From JOC to event preparation but at the end the results were fruitful,” said Gazza.

Every season Gazza does his community initiative by ploughing back to the needy. This he does by donating from school uniforms and materials to food parcels. Also winter clothes and blankets.

Giving back

“Ploughing back to the community is not something I can confidently make an announcement and take pictures of. We are talking about people’s dignity here, people’s lives. Of course we can’t cover everywhere but in due course things will be alright for all of us,” said Gazza.

Once a year he’d host a sports event where members of the community of Daveyton took part in. From Soccer, handball, Netball and aerobics.
