Gcaba brothers, feared taxi operators, on campaign to hunt down ‘fake news’ culprits

Durban –  Those who have been circulating ‘hoax’ voice notes purporting to be that of the Gcaba brothers, feared KwaZulu-Natal-based public transport operators will soon be hunted down and face consequences for their actions.

“We have open cases of crimen injuria with the SAPS because we want the source of the voice notes to be tracked down and investigated,” explained Mandla Gcaba speaking on behalf of the family.

Anonymous voice notes which have been shared on social media and spread like wildfire claims that the Gcaba brothers were key movers in instigating deadly violence which has engulfed KZN and Gauteng provinces leading to the death of more than 200 people.

The showdown that climaxed into wide scale looting of shops and destruction of property in various towns was organized under the #FreeZumaNow campaign.

The Gcaba family who runs a fleet of vehicles ranging from taxis to buses were alleged to have donated their vehicles to aid the Jacob Zuma campaign.

The former statesman who is serving a 15-month contempt of court sentence in Estcourt prison is a close relative of the Gcaba family.

Mandla, the senior brother of the Gcaba family said the social media voice notes were part of a concerted effort to smear the family, lamenting that this has caused untold harm to his siblings and their wives.

“We have discussed this situation with top government officials and assured them that we will never instigate or participate in any public violence. We are however supporting Zuma as an elder, parent, and uncle to us. What is happening to him is hurtful, but we will never break the law in the name of supporting him,” he said.

He added that they have also resolved to enlist the services of a private investigator so that the culprits who have been defaming their family name can be brought to book.

Meanwhile, Zandile Gumede, a staunch Zuma supporter and one of the prominent faces of radical economic transformation forces has also met police in Inanda, south of Durban after claims surfaced that she was one of the masterminds of proZuma protests.

Gumede who was accompanied by her lawyer advocate Bulelani Mazomba is believed to have presented printouts of various social media posts and made a sworn statement affirming that she was never a key instigator in the protests.
