The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) is at it again attacking leaders of the mother body.
This time, the young lions want ANC leaders who talk about a coalition government post 2024 national and provincial elections to leave the ruling party.
According to league’s national executive committee (NEC) member and elections sub-committee member, Lufefe Mkutu, the ANC cannot afford to go into the watershed elections with doomsayers within its ranks.
Mkutu, speaking in Harry Gwala region in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend, said the ANC should not tolerate leaders who accept defeat way before elections, as such behaviour smacks of leaders who are spies for enemy forces.
“As we are going to these [2024] elections, even our leaders are going around speaking about coalitions, preparing for coalitions in public, which creates the impression that we have accepted that the ANC has reached a cul-de-sac and that the ANC has no good electoral fortunes in our country,” charged Mkutu
“We must say to our leaders, if they want to speak [about] coalitions, they [should] just leave the ANC and start coalition governments outside of the ANC. The ANC is ready to win these elections [with outright majority].
“No leader of the ANC should stand on a podium and convince members of the ANC that the 2024 elections are going to be a coalition outcome.
“We must not believe that comrades, because it is a narrative driven by particular people within the ANC who are spies.”
Mkutu insisted that young people must go out in full force and start campaigning for a decisive ANC victory.
According to him, this is possible, particularly because the majority of South Africans are young people. He said all ANC leaders have to do is go out and speak the truth.
One thing the ANCYL is not going to stand is any leader suggesting a coalition with “anti-progress and liberal elements such as the DA and EFF”.
“The ANC has the capacity to win the elections, if we go to our people and speak the truth. If we lie, our people will continue to say ‘these people cannot be trusted’,” said Mkutu.
“So, we are going to these elections not for coalitions, but for a decisive victory and a total control of all levers of society and government that the ANC must be in charge of.”
In just two months in office, the 26th ANCYL NEC has been at odds with the mother body on at least three occasions.
Before Mkutu’s missiles at the weekend, youth league president previously found himself in hot water for launching an attack on two senior ministers – Pravin Gordhan for privatisation of state-owned enterprises, and Thulas Nxesi for unemployment.
