Cyberbullying case adds to Tebogo Thobejane’s stress

Former Muvhango actress Tebogo Thobejane is fearing for her life and she is living with extreme stress.

Her anxiety peaked after her car was shot at and it has now taken a toll on her mental health.

Last month Thobejane’s car was shot at by unknown attackers and a friend she was travelling with is still fighting for her life in hospital.

A case of attempted murder was later opened after what appeared to have been a failed hit on Thobejane’s life.

Shot at an intersection

Thobejane was travelling with her driver and the friend when they were attacked at a traffic lights intersection in Morningside, Johannesburg.

The case was opened by the driver who said the incident occurred at approximately 10.30pm.

Speaking to Sunday World on Wednesday, Tebogo Thobejane said because she was cyberbullied and not making money in the country she spent most of her time abroad.

“I’ve been harassed, cyberbullied and I almost died three weeks ago because someone shot at my car. I am not safe in my own country. I did get death threats in January and when I came back after July they waited until October to do this to me,” she said.

Thobejane said her mental health was okay until she was shot at. She is attending therapy, and now she is on anti-anxiety medication.

She divulged that she would be going to court this week with someone who has been cyberbullying her.

“It is very suspicious that this person cyberbullied me and now that there is a court case, people want to kill me. She has been dodging this thing for months now and she tried to buy the docket.”

The actress reminisced about an incident where she was asked to speak at a GBV event because she grew up witnessing it around her parents. She said when the department of arts and culture heard that she was going to speak she was removed from the programme her damaged reputation.

“If I go anywhere I am just slut shamed. I’m looked at as if I am a prostitute, as someone who is just coming to cause drama. I am an AFDA graduate but they don’t take me seriously because of what has been said about me on social media.”
