It’s going to be a Haaland v Salah affair

Liverpool will be looking to continue with their good run of form but should expect to visit a Manchester City side that has regained appetite for goals at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s team has scored an impressive 15 goals in its past four matches, with the deadly pony-tail assassin Erling Haaland back to his menacing ways.

Liverpool too, have not been lethargic in front of goals, with nine strikes in four outings, and their Egyptian talisman Mo Salah back to his best form mummifying defenders and goalkeepers alike. So, Saturday’s encounter is already making football fans salivate, with the tie already dubbed a Haaland v Salah affair.

Football followers are still trying to regain their breath following City’s mouthwatering 4-4 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The weather was not only bucketing in Chelsea, but it also rained a total of 8 goals that left both set of supporters with their voices hoarse.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went into the Fifa calendar break with their tales up following a 3-0 thumping of Brentford last Sunday. Liverpool is joint second with Arsenal, level on 27 points with the Citizens at the summit with 28 points.

With the brace, Salah took his tally to 10 goals in 12 rounds. Haaland is on 13.

Overall, Salah’s brace took him to 200 goals in England, two for Chelsea and 198 for Liverpool.

He has also contributed either a goal or assist in the last 15 league matches he’s played at Anfield, and will indeed pose a threat for Guardiola’s central defensive wall manned by Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji.

It was quiet a dominant performance by The Reds last week with 52% ball possession as compared to Brentford’s 48%.

Klopp’s side showed intent with 10 shorts on target and with their opponents squeezing in a mere three strikes. Liverpool have not lost a match in their last five outings, having last lost to Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at the end of September.

Simply put, fans can expect fireworks come Saturday.
