Chiefs upbeat but Arrows believe they can cause upset

Upbeat Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to build on their hard-fought win over Stellenbosch FC midweek and record back-to-back victories for only the second time in the league this season when they face Golden Arrows this afternoon.

Chiefs are buoyant after returning an impressive come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Stellies on Wednesday night.

However, they will face a stubborn side against Arrows, which has always given them a run for their money.

Arrows will be looking to climb up the Betway Premiership log standings and return to winning ways against Nasreddine Nabi’s boys in the afternoon kick-about.

The two sides will meet at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, with the game scheduled to get underway at 3pm.

The premiership is nearing the second half of the season, and all teams will start doing their utmost to accumulate every point up for grabs.

Chiefs and Arrows have been blowing hot and cold throughout the season.

Speaking to Sunday World ahead of the encounter, Abafana Bes’thende coach Musa Bilankulu said his side will be ready to face the Chiefs in a ground that they are familiar with, despite it being an away game for them.

“In terms of the logistics of travelling and everything, it gives us an advantage.”

“But remember, they always have support whenever they play here in KZN. So, I think they looked at that part from that perspective and tried to play mind games so that if they bring the KZN, they always feel bigger,” Bilankulu said.

“However, that can also be a disadvantage for them as well because they’ve been travelling from Joburg to Cape Town [to face Cape Town City], then from Cape Town to Joburg [to face Stellenbosch], and now they are here in Durban.

“So, we must see all those small things and try to take advantage wherever we can. And I believe that as much as it’s their home game, it is also our home game too. We know the feel of the pitch very well, and last week we played AmaZulu on the same pitch.”

Coach Nabi’s side has only managed to keep one clean sheet in their last 12 league matches—a weakness that Bilankulu and his side will be seeking to exploit.

“I believe the Chiefs coach will analyse and see where they are struggling and where they can try to block us. But we got an opportunity to watch them twice last week [against City and Stellies].

“So, we will plan according to their strengths and weaknesses and try to manipulate every possible situation,” he added.
