Zakhele Lepasa could be on his way out of Orlando Pirates after just rejoining the Buccaneers for their off-season training camp.
It has emerged that the club has not registered him for the CAF Champions League squad and that signals that he is probably not in the club’s plans, and that he may be returning to Matsatsantsa a Pitori before the start of the season.
The Bafana Bafana striker spent the second half of last season on loan at SuperSport United. He had just returned to the Bucs and was part of the travelling party that went to Spain and played friendly matches as part of their pre-season preparations.
Although he was part of coach Jose Riveiro’s off-season preparations, the 26-year-old Soweto-born forward looks set to land himself a permanent move to United, joining former teammate Siphesihle Ndlovu who is now full-time on the books of SuperSport.
In a move that shocked the Mzansi football fraternity, Lepasa joined SuperSport on the last day of the January window period on loan until the end of the season.
Lepasa was part of the Buccaneers squad that won the MTN8 trophy twice in three seasons (2020/21 and 2022/23) and narrowly losing out on international glory, ending up runners-up in the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup.
The speedy attacker made his Bafana debut in the Cosafa Cup in 2019 against Botswana and will look to cement his place in Hugo Broos’ squad for the 2023 Afcon tournament.
Bucs will start their CAF campaign in the preliminary round against Djabal Club from Comoros.
Their next opponents will be Botswana’s league champions Jwaneng Galaxy or Vispers SC of Uganda.
