Nkosingiphile Ngcobo believes Kaizer Chiefs had good season

Nkosingiphile “Mshini” Ngcobo believes that Kaizer Chiefs had a good 2025/2026 Betway Premiership campaign, despite completing it without winning a trophy.

However, Amakhosi secured a place in the CAF Confederation Cup next season and reached the 50-point mark for the first time since the 2019/2020 campaign, when they lost the league title on the last day to Mamelodi Sundowns.

This season, despite the club not playing the most attractive brand of football and losing matches they probably should not have, Amakhosi improved compared to the last two seasons, when they finished outside the top eight.

Season good but not great

“I consider this to be a good season, not great because at Kaizer Chiefs the expectations are higher, but after the last few years, I think we turned a corner and are heading in the right direction,” Ngcobo said.

“We will take what we have learned and try to improve for next season. It’s a great feeling to know that we are going to play in the CAF competition again next season.

“It is something we wanted to achieve as a team, and we are happy to have done it with two games to spare. I am excited for it. It will be difficult, but we will benefit from the experience.”

Having already cemented position three on the log, Chiefs will wrap up their campaign against AmaZulu and struggling Chippa United, with both games set to be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

“We are doing our usual build-up, preparing our game plan with the coaches [Cedric Khaze and Khalil Ben Youssef]. We will have to work hard because it will not be an easy game.

He added: “We know how dangerous AmaZulu can be with Coach Arthur (Zwane), so we are expecting a tough match, and we are ready to fight for the win.”

Whilst rightly proud of the accomplishment of finishing third and qualifying for continental competition, Ngcobo considers it a step on the pathway towards the level at which the club ought to be competing.

The game between Amakhosi and Usuthu is scheduled to kick off at 3pm, at the same time as all the other league matches that will be taking place on the day.
