Pirates set one foot in MTN8 final, with first leg win over Sekhukhune

Orlando Pirates will be heading into the second leg of the MTN8 not only with a lead, but also with an away-goal advantage, following their slender 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United.

Pirates edged Sekhukhune at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday during their semi-final first leg.

Deon Hotto’s spectacular goal late in the first half was the difference, after some good passage of play and a back-heel assist from Gamphani Lungu to head into the break with a lead.

Both teams tried pushing for that important goal in the second half, with Babina Noko hunting for an equaliser, while the Buccaneers were fighting to get that cushion goal, but they settled for the 1-0 victory ahead of their second leg next Saturday at the Orlando Stadium.

But first, the two sides will meet in a Betway Premiership encounter on Tuesday night. The Pirates fans also got to witness their new striker Sebastian Pedersen make his debut, as he was introduced in the second half by coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The Norwegian did not have a lot of touches, but will be delighted to have finally gotten a run and a taste of South African football.
