Former Idols SA contestant Sneziey Msomi is a powerhouse who has commanding vocal chords. Msomi released her debut album three years ago and earned herself a South African Music Awards (SAMA) nomination.
In November she made a return with her EP, Sibonga Umusa, and she will be taking a step further with a tour. Speaking to Sunday World, Msomi describes her musical journey as one that is godly-driven.
Responding to God’s calling
“This is how I always try and describe my journey. I believe it has always been the way that God has always wanted it to be. I opted to do gospel music because it was responding to the calling,” said Msomi.
She said though she is able to sing other music genres, she feels that gospel is what God wants her to do.
“Music has helped me achieve my goals. It has helped grow my spiritual being and enter into spaces I never imagined I would find myself in. I draw inspiration from God and my late grandmother’s prayers and wise words to me.”
Great support system
Msomi added that she is able to smoothly juggle her career, being a mother and wife with the support she gets from her family and husband. With this support, being able to wear all of these caps becomes easier for her.
She will, for the first time ever, present her inaugural live performance on home ground. Her tour will kick off on April 26 2024 at The Station Urban in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The concert promises to be an unforgettable experience. It will feature artists such as Dumi Mkokstad, Jumbo, Malusi Mbokazi and Ithemba musical group as supporting acts.
Speaking about the show, Msomi said: “This is me exalting God and the grace he showed in my life. When I write music, it comes as a conversation with God. The melody goes with the words that I say to God.”
