Chiefs looking to rub salt in Galaxy’s wound as they gun for third spot

It will be a battle of the red-hot versus the insipid when a rejuvenated and energised Kaizer Chiefs will face the beleaguered and out-of-sorts TS Galaxy at the FNB Stadium this afternoon.

The fixture, which is one of only two home matches Chiefs will play in their final 10 games, will kick-off at 3pm.

Galaxy is experiencing a dismal run of form, having gone eight league matches without a win in the Betway Premiership. Chiefs, on the side, are on a high and cruising nicely, having reclaimed third position after a mid-season slump.

Amakhosi have now firmly established themselves as favourites to clinch the number three spot on the table and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup. Chiefs have two games in hand, which will be vital in their quest to play up in the continent next season.

In their last eight matches, the Rockets registered seven defeats and one draw, with 18 goals conceded. Their latest defeat was a 2-1 loss to Polokwane City on Wednesday. Following this run, the club lies 12th in the standings, seven points above the relegation zone, with seven rounds of matches remaining.

Back to Chiefs, and on Easter Monday, the Glamour Boys came from a goal down to produce one of their best performances of the 2025/26 season in a 3-1 win over Orbit College at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Gqeberha.

Orbit’s Mbulelo Wagaba had silenced the partisan fans when he opened the scoring, but Wandile Duba equalised in the dying minutes of the first half.

Second half goals from Mduduzi Shabalala and Siphesihle Ndlovu resulted in three well-earned points for Amakhosi.

Chiefs are buoyed by three consecutive wins and will be eager to extend their streak in front of their home supporters. The first round fixture in December ended in a goalless draw at Mbombela in Nelspruit, though Chiefs were left frustrated after being denied a legitimate goal by Flavio Da Silva.

On the Betway Premiership log, Amakhosi have recorded 39 points from 21 matches, while Galaxy sits in 11th position with 25 points from their 22 games. However, Galaxy have capable players in Sedwyn George, Mlungisi Mbunjana, Salatiel Silva and Seluleko Mahlambi who can upset the applecart and end the party for Amakhosi.
