Isasiphinkosi Mdingi, 26, of Ngcele village, Tsolo in the Eastern Cape, fell pregnant at 17 but today she has a law degree and Masters in Public Administration. It pained her that some of her schoolmates dropped out or didn’t go beyond high school, and that’s why in 2012, as a first-year student at the University of Fort Hare, she started All About Education. The project gives learners career guidance, motivates them to continue studying after high school and assists them to register for tertiary education. In 2015, Mdingi raised R3 500 registration fee for a desperate student within two days. That student is now a law degree graduate. Currently, Mdingi seeks funds to buy gumboots, raincoats and waterproof bags for 70 children in Lusikisiki, outside Mthatha, who are forced to cross the Ntlenga River daily to get to school. “Your destiny is not tied to your background; fight for your dreams,” Mdingi says.
