Mdu Lepele, 32, is on a high of success after discovering the unmatched medicinal benefits of cannabis and the lucrativeness of the business. Through his company Elengos Supply, which he started last year, the young entrepreneur manufactures and sells cannabis oil that he extracts, yes, from cannabis. For Lepele, the cannabis oil is gold because it cures a variety of common health ailments such as anxiety, depression, acne, insomnia and many more. It can even provide relief to cancer patients. Crucially, he believes, the cannabis industry could contribute to the country’s economy and create much-needed employment. Today, Lepele, a sound engineer by training, sells his cannabis oil at various outlets in Johannesburg CBD. “I started my own brand because I wanted to learn and explore the other side of me,” says Lepele. “I also wanted to offer my African brothers and sisters a product they could afford because I could see they couldn’t afford the brands I used to work for.” The reception of his product has been warm. “People realise that what I’m doing helps and it brings happiness,” adds Lepele, who hails from Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg. Elengos Supply employs three people and the brand is growing “because I’m doing collaboration with other companies”.
