Sphakamiso Blessings Duma, 25, is a wine connoisseur and a wine/grape merchant from Wyebank, north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. Duma is the owner of Duma Wines, a brand he intends growing locally and internationally, while playing a major role in developing young role players in the local wine industry. Duma’s passion for wine began in 2016 when he was working as a cashier at Checkers. He was later appointed a wine controller. He also had stints as a novice sommelier (wine taster) for a number of companies including Vinimark Tradings, False Bay, Circumstance and Spier Wines. In 2019, Duma worked as a KwaZulu-Natal tasting ambassador for Waterkloof Wines, a valuable experience that has fast-tracked his career. He may be young but he certainly knows where he’s going. “One’s purpose in life should be to live your passion. Living your passion is doing something you love that you don’t consider to be a job,” Duma says.
