After an eye injury forced him to retire at an early age, former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana keeper Brighton Mhlongo is venturing into another journey.
Mhlongo hanged up his boots after a freak accident at training in 2021.
He was struck by a ball on the face and the doctors later declared him partially blind, sending him into a premature retirement. He was 30 at the time.
The Soweto-born shot-stopper started his football career at the now defunct FC AK before joining Pirates.
He later played in the colours of Chippa United before moving on to then Bidvest Wits. The status of Wits was bought by TTM, who later changed to Marumo Gallants.
At the time of his retirement, Mhlongo was on the books of Gallants and the parties were at loggerheads after the club terminated his contract following his career-ending injury.
Since he hanged up his boots, Mhlongo has been keeping himself busy by assisting on various programmes including at the Lucky Lekgwathi Foundation.
From May 1, Mhlongo will join e.tv’s The Morning Show, where he will present the sports beat of the programme. The lifestyle and news show will broadcast simultaneously on e.tv and eNCA.
For over four years without fail, the show has kept audiences captivated with edutaining and relevant content, covering current affairs, entertainment, in-depth conversations, politics, sports and African spirituality, among others.
The revamped show will see Mhlongo and seasoned news presenter Faith Mangope joining current hosts Nelisiwe Mmape, Kgosi Rankhumise and Bolele Polisa.
