Academic and philanthropist Dr John Molepo helps disadvantaged youngsters in Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, Mpumalanga, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal get education and access employment opportunities. The lecturer from Mpumalanga University pays student registration and tuition fees, placing graduates in employment opportunities, and helps young people obtain driver’s licences. Molepo, 30, does all this via Thusa Ngwana Geno, a non-profit organisation he founded in 2017. What’s more, his organisation also builds mini-libraries to promote a culture of reading in his community and ensures that schools are refurbished to create a conducive environment for learning. “Our vision is to help the youth realise their dreams of becoming better people in life through education. Some of us experienced the difficulty to get funding [to study] and [we] were assisted by others,” he says. “It is, therefore, important for us to plough back to the community. By assisting with tuition fees, we seek to help them take the first step towards bettering their lives.”
