Hailing from Ivory Park in Gauteng, Modjadji Selowe, 33, wants to improve the lives of youth in her area. She is the founder of Lebone Rivoningo Developments, a non-profit organisation that empowers youngsters to lead better lives through a dynamic mentorship programme that encompasses education, arts, sports and culture. “Lebone is a catalyst for change in a community that is previously disadvantaged, a high-density community that is full of alcohol abuse and teenage pregnancy. We are an exemple of ubuntu, as we shape the future of young people through our dynamic programmes,” Selowe says. “We help youngsters to see possibilities against all odds, to look into the future with a positive attitude.” Her organisation, which started operating in 2015, services 60 youngsters during weekends and the impact of her work is already felt. “Our 2020 matric mentees are placed at tertiary institutions. Our mentors are either enrolled for academic courses or are entrepreneurs or employable.”
