Thabile Noxolo Buthelezi, 28, is the founder and executive director of the Thabile Buthelezi Foundation. She is a social transformer and her foundation has unleashed several community development initiatives. One of those is the annual Woke Queen Seminars, which happens during Women’s Month in August to empower women and educate them on business, leadership and other topics. The Girl/Boy Child Campaign teaches girls and boys important life lessons. Buthelezi also mentors 40 girls aged between 16 and 28. Buthelezi, who hails from KwaMashu, north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, has a BA (University of KZN), a project management diploma (UniSchool) and a Masters in Dance Knowledge (University of Roehampton, London in the UK) and is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Administration (Durban University of Technology). Buthelezi’s motto is: “Start where you are, with what you have, and gradually progress until you reach your ultimate goal. Stop making excuses for yourself. Sukuma manje (get up now).”
