Every Friday, Nicole Angelique Thomas, 26, overloads her car and undertake two to three trips transporting young people from their homes to attend youth nights. Thomas wears many caps. She is a grade 3 teacher, senior youth leader, secretary, and a councillor for young girls at Alpha Squad Youth, an organisation based in Grassy Park, Lotus River in Cape Town. The organisation is part of the Bethany Church of Nazarene. Born in 1995, Thomas joined the organisation in 2017. Two years ago, the organisation had 15 members but now the figure stands at 30. Thomas's proudest moment was overseeing the design of the organisation's logo and website. She bemoans a lack of commitment from the youth and insufficient support from parents at the reasons the youth does not attend the organisation's initiatives consistently. “We [youth] allow our circumstances to shape our future. We must dream big. God planted a purpose within us that we just need to activate,” says says.
