Nkululeko Mthembu, 35, is the chairman of Nkanyisa Imitha Development Centre, a non-profit organisation founded in 2014. His work focuses on career guidance and providing food security at universities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. His organisation, which operates in KwaMondi village in Eshowe, northern KwaZulu-Natal, also helps collect essential medication for the elderly from a local clinic. His other forms of social activism include the cleaning of local schools and communal amenities, as well as providing career guidance to matriculants. Mthembu’s energy is boundless. “I was raised by the village and I need to provide my services to the community that has made me who I am today. I try to instil a sense of ubuntu [in others] and I encourage others to do the same in order to take our people forward,” says Mthembu.
