Through Emtshezi Youth Developers, a non-governmental organisaiton he founded in 2014, Xolani Mhlanga, 33, is on a mission to give useful career guidance and a helping hand to learners of Ntabamhlophe in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal. For him, knowledge is power and education is a key to success. The organisation equips learners with knowledge and skills towards furthering their studies after matric. Through his career expos that make him go from school to school in his area, Mhlanga interacts with learners and shares knowledge on how they can access bursaries and scholarships. Key to his mission is showing them how they could use technology to search for information and keep abreast with career trends around the world. “Every child in our society deserves proper education and I’ve made it my responsibility to guide them towards greatness. Growing up in a rural area, I never got career guidance since information was scant. I didn’t want youngsters in my area to go through the same struggle,” Mhlanga says.
