Nqobile Phephile Tibane is passionate about the safety and wellbeing of women and children. Born in Nelspruit in Mpumalanga in 1994, Tibane,27, joined the Temndeni Community Development in Msogwaba, a small town in the province, in January 2010. Between then and May this year, she raised donations from local shops to achieve four things so far. First, she assisted 40 orphaned children with food, clothing, school uniform and other necessities. Second, she counselled 20 young women who are the victims of gender-based violence (GBV). Third, she trained 60 young women on incidents of GBV and the signs to look out for. She also awarded them attendance certificates. Last, Tibane trained 150 young women to become agents of change and encouraged them to strive to make a difference in other people’s lives. “Never let challenges determine your future, fight for what you want and help others in the process,” Tibane says.
